Thursday night, we went with our friend Chrissy to see Gnarls Barkley at The Highline Ballroom. AMAZING!! It was such a cool space – probably only held 1,000-1,100 people, balcony included.

It was general admission, so we got there a little early; 7:30 for a 9pm show. Ate dinner there. Rob and I had the Kobe burgers. We asked for medium but am pretty sure they came out rare, if not mooing. But we were hungry, so ate them anyway. I like things more on the rare side, but I think they sat funny with Rob.

Santogold opened for almost an hour. She’s from Brooklyn and we really dug her!

Then Gnarls Barkley took the stage for an hour. It was the best concert I’ve been to in a long, long time; if not ever. So much energy. They’re a current favorite band.

I love this picture of Rob -

Our date was amazing!!
Bar Americain was delicious. Seriously. Best.Food.Ever. Well, certainly in a long long time. It was swanky but welcoming.

We were sat on just out of this shot, along the right wall.

just opposite of the right boot
To start, we had the Corn Chowder & Raw Bar Tasting. The tasting of 3 was quite possibly my favorite of the night. From left to right: Lobster & Avocado, Shrimp, Crab w/ Mango & Coconut. Lobster & Avocado was transcendent.

For dinner, Rob had the Rack of Pork with Hudson Valley Apple Chutney, Sour Mash, & Creamed Corn. I had the Smoked Chicken, Hatched Green Chile Spoonbread, Black Pepper Vinegar Sauce. Doesn’t that just sound delicious?! It’s all a la carte, so for sides, we had the Hot Potato Chips w/ Blue Cheese Sauce & Asparagus w/ Green Peppercorn Vinaigrette. Dessert was the Maple Cinnamon Creme Brulee w/ Asian Pear Beignets and the Deep Dish Chocolate Creme Pie.
For being an upscale, fancy restaurant, the portions a really good size. We got out of SNL and weren’t hungry at all! AND!!!!!!
GUESS WHO WAS IN THE KITCHEN?!?!

Actually cooking stuff -

YUP!!!

That’s him in the whites!! Chef Bobby Flay, himself!

Dinner alone would have been an amazing date – but NO! There was more.

2 tickets to the LIVE taping of a Christopher Walken SNL. Rob’s buddy even hooked us up with floor seats!! You can kind of see us in some of wide shots but only if you knew where we were sitting. We were right in front of the opener, Weekend Update, the Grease sketch, the Surprise Party sketch and the Walken Family Reunion sketch. SO cool!

I made it through the whole night in my heels (yay me!). But we only had a half hour from the end of the show to make the last train out of the city to jersey, so we took a cab. For those of you who have not had the pleasure of grabbing the last train of the night, boy are you missing you! It was a better show than people watching at the airport. The drunk blonde with the clutch bag full-o-money who kept sidling up to people trying to talk to them; the bachelorette party who was trying to hold 10 seats for the lost half of their group; the drunken group of kind of Irish people. The list went on but it certainly made for an interesting ride.
