crafty

I was surfing around Etsy the other day and came across these super fabulous bags by seller DavidShockDesigns. You know my penchant for all things industrial and quirky, so it isn’t any wonder I dig them.

They’re made out of discarded orange fencing (like they put up to catch leaves and trash). Making trash useful and fashionable; how green is that?!

I love that it’s using unique and different materials. Like how I wallpapered our “dining room” with giant acrylic gas station numbers. Not their original purpose but look super cool!

You can check out his Etsy Shop here.

As most of you probably know, I posted on theknot.com all throughout our planning process. Without going into a great deal of detail (it’s a whole other world, folks), most of the people who post have bios.

A bio is a webpage where you can post all your ideas in one spot and other brides can look through and see all your ideas. There are a bunch of different programs and websites people use; the knot has it’s own tool but STL Wed’s Bio Builder is a pretty universally popular one. GooglePages is becoming common but I used WordPress (but I’m not using it as a blog, just a reg. website). Have a lost you yet?? I loved looking at bios! I know; I’m a giant dork. We’ve established that. So I made my own married bio and posted pictures from our wedding, pictures of our many DIY projects and a bunch of other things that, unless you’re planning a wedding, you probably don’t care to hear more about.

If you’re really bored, you can check it out here. One of the things I love about WordPress is that there is a stats page that shows how many hits you’re getting per day/week/month and where those hits are coming from (referrers).

Today I saw a referrer I’d never seen before – FavorIdeas.com. If you scroll down, this comment was made on 23April08 -

    copper wedding ideas

Top to Bottom, L to R: 1) Copper Leaf Bobeches, Martha. 2) Embossed copper menus on CB napkins, from Alissa & Craig, Brides. 3) From Dina & Patrick, Weinstock copper cake, Brides. 4) Favor detail from Stephanie & Ken, Junebug Weddings.

Row 2: 1-2) Copper bodice detail and copper bouquet wrap, from “Fit for a King & Queen,” Inside Weddings. 3-4) Copper taper candles and original copper wire trees from Mrs. Carrie Grace.

Row 3: 1) Copper centerpiece display on Copper L’Amour linens, BBJ Linens. 2) Stunning copper organza overlay/tuxedo pinstripe CB linen combination, Real Weddings. 3) Copper linens and hanging paper lanterns, from Beth & Kenny, The Knot. 4) “Jewelry Cake”, Edible Art.

Check out all the weddings listed above for more ideas, especially Mrs. Carrie Grace whose wedding was all about copper. But the other ones listed have some great details. I didn’t include it here, but if you’re into copper you have to see Mishka Design’s tropical Copper Wedding. She is so talented and as usual, the whole design floats off the ground.

Anyone recognize the right & middle pictures of the center row?? wink wink, nudge nudge!!

LOOK – our TREES!!! WHEEEEE!!! And the candles Aunt MaryAnn found!!

To quote, “Check out all the weddings listed above for more ideas, especially Mrs. Carrie Grace whose wedding was all about copper(yeah it was!). And if you read up at the top of the page, under “How To Get Down With Brown” (after the blue and pink part) it says, “Now, cutting-edge weddings interweave brown with fire-engine reds, copper and oranges”. “Cutting-edge”, I like that!

I LOVE this site! Throwing parties and having people over is something we really enjoy. The Hostess Blog has so many great ideas. They also do a great job of keeping things realistic. The ideas are budget friendly and within a normal persons reach. They also pull in cool things and ideas from other websites. Kind of like a news aggregate site – but way more my speed! haha

Online places, that is.

Usually, I’m very productive at work. But sitting at a desk all day can (sometimes) cause me to get a little distracted. It’s always amazing where I end up in my daisy chain of clicking. There are now several places that I like to check out, so I think I’ll feature them here over the course of a few posts.

First up – Etsy

Etsy is king of like eBay but everything is handmade and you just buy it (no bidding). It’s massive. I could spend (literally) hours on this site! So many cool things!!

Most recently, I bought Rob this new wallet from seller jDUCT-

It’s 100% made out of duct tape! And it’s got a lucha libre mask on it.

Etsy makes me want to craft or start my own crafting business. I know, I know. Grad school first. Got it. Grad school THEN Etsy store.

This past week was all kinds of busy but we got SO much done.

Saturday the 8th, we picked up Mom’s dress, Rob’s vest, the extra fabric and MY dress!! All look amazing. I love my bustle; even though she had to redo it while I was in it. Jan, the tailor, said it was easy to bustle. Mom watched, so I hope she thinks the same thing. I have NO idea how it’s done.

We also started on the centerpiece bases. Good gravy these centerpieces are involved! I hope there are 32 people who are going to want a giant copper tree in their life. We’re putting so much work into them. I certainly don’t want them to just be thrown out. Do YOU want a centerpiece? Consider it sculptural art. Please say you’ll want one.

Saturday night was the Christmas in Carol and Song concert at Rutgers’ Kirkpatrick Chapel. It’s my favorite Christmas concert; so festive. It’s one time when we can just sit and enjoy. No phones ringing. No emails to check. Nothing else to do. Just sitting in a candle lit chapel listening to amazing music. The wedding and holiday craziness just gets put on hold for an hour and a half. It’s perfect.

Sunday Karen, Erin, and Skip came over. They thought they’d be just hanging out with us. HA! Be warned. If you come over within the next 2 weeks, you’re getting put to work. The boys did manage to get some guitar hero in but some favors were made, so that kept me happy.

Monday, Rob, Skip & I went and put in the paperwork for our marriage license!!! It’s officially official folks. Apparently it’s the old carbon paper stuff, so we CANNOT sit or spill anything on it. Typos or cross-outs void it. It has to be returned to them 100% correct with no additional scuff marks. Talk about pressure. It’s ready for pick up Monday but maybe we won’t pick it up until Friday. That way there’s less chance of anything happening to it.

After that, Skip, Erin, Rob and I all celebrated with breakfast at Holly Brook. Then it was back to the house. The boys peeled labels and de-gunked copper fittings for the centerpieces. Erin & I tied tags to favors until our fingers were about to fall off. Boy do we owe them! They’ve been an amazing help!! Thanks guys!

I worked from home M-Th. So I read apps like a fiend in the morning and late at night. Then had the afternoons and evenings to help Dad with centerpieces. It was a very productive arrangement. We’ve got all the bases just about done. Well, cut, sanded, and painted at least. We’ll assemble this weekend. If you can come and help, let me know! I’ll send you the evite. It’s All Hands on Deck time. Busy busy.

We’ve selected and finalized the menu for Fish Lake Friday. YUM! Tonight is the final meeting with the florist. Then this weekend is our final work weekend. YAY!!!!
