June 2008

Today has been the best so far. Rob slept most of Friday after getting out of surgery. Yesterday he was in more pain than Friday or today. Hopefully that was the worst it’ll ever get. After getting a loud, confused roommate at 11:30 last night, we finally got some sleep about 2am. We got a whole 4 hours of mostly interrupted sleep. It was blissful.

In other big news… We got showers! That was the highlight of our day (well, other than getting discharged). We both felt so grody. My hair was disgusting. There wasn’t any shampoo but they did have plenty of Johnson & Johnson Baby Hair & Body Wash. It worked and we felt spectacular afterward. The rents came up to hang out with us and were there to talk with the surgeon for one last time. We go to see him again on Thursday.

They also helped us home. We brought so much stuff with us, you would have thought we were moving in.  It was great to have help bringing everything home, unpacking and putting stuff away.

The maids had come Friday and neither of us had been home since.  They did SUCH a great job. We used Maids on Call. They advertise heavily in our building and service a bunch of other units. Plus we had a $20 off gift card.  Wow was it worth it! Just coming home to a tidy house was great. But everything was clean; like scrubbed, dusted, vacuumed, buffed, shined clean. We can’t afford to do bi-weekly cleanings (nor do I think we really need to). But I’d definitely do it again, especially before parties.

So we’re home and settled. I even made jello (sugar free, of course).

Today was our first full day in recovery. Neither of us slept for more than 2-3 hours at a time. Rob was able to nap a few times throughout the day though. I slept across 2 chairs pushed together but tonight got upgraded to a recliner “borrowed” from physical therapy. Visiting hours are only supposed to be from 11:00am-8:30pm but no one seems to mind me staying. Neither of us have had a shower since early Friday morning… yum!!

Rob is one of the more self-sufficient patients here. He only needs some assistance unplugging everything when he wants to get up. We had our entourage up this afternoon. That was nice. The parental contingent is coming back tomorrow to. Well, I guess technically it’s today.

Rob got a roommate (at about 11:30pm) for a couple hours but they just moved him out to the hall (thank goodness). Maybe we can get some sleep now.

Everything went well. Rob is out of surgery and in the recovery unit. He’s still mostly asleep but woke up long enough to say hi and ask to have the channel changed from FOX news. Sounds like he’ll be just fine. ;)

When I fell asleep last night, my dear husband had a full beard. I woke up this morning to this -

Robert & Mildred, my grandparents, tied the knot 59 years ago today on June 25, 1949.

Grammy & Pop-Pop (as they’re more commonly called) got married at in a simple church ceremony at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity. Today it’s called the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church but it’s still at 65th St., Central Park West, NYC. Grammy wore a light blue skirt suit and Pop rocked the wide lapel pin-stripe suit. Don’t they look great?! It was a simple affair; wedding and then dinner with friends at a local restaurant.

What a week!! Lots of love to everyone!!!

9 years and 2 days ago today, Diggie turned 12 years old.

We had a few friends over to celebrate and this picture was snapped.

2 days later, I asked Rob if he’d go out with me. He said yes.

Who knew that 8 years, 6 months, & 11 days later, we’d be standing here.

I am one lucky girl.

You’re the best thing that has ever happened to me. I am a better person because of you.

I love you vrry vrry much.
