September 2007

Check that off the To-Do list! Our honeymoon flights are officially booked and we’re going to Mexico. We will be flying out of Philly to Cancun on Jan 3rd & returning on the 10th. Hotel and itinerary are still being worked out. Tonight we’re thinking about staying in Playa del Carmen but nothing has been booked. I think we’d like to see Chichen-Itza & the ruins in Tulum. Both will probably be day trips. Playa del Carmen seems to be the most centrally town/city.

We’re also thinking about staying in a smaller hotel, rather than one of the all-inclusives so we have more options. That would, however, also entail renting a car. I’ll have been 25 for a whopping 3 days, so we’ll dodge those additional fees. But that means driving in a brand new country in a rental car. Adventure or disaster? I’ll leave that for you to decide.

What a weekend! Lots of wedding stuff checked off the list. But it seems like as soon as we cross one thing off, something else gets added.

Friday, Mom & I went shopping for a dress for her. She picked me up in Newark and we headed over to the Mall at Short Hills. We combed the whole mall but ended up buying the strapless, navy number we found at Bloomingdales (the first store we went to). She looks just lovely in it but I’m not sure she’s totally sold. It came home with us but I think the receipt is still attached to the garment bag.

Saturday, Rob & I started the day bright & early with a trip into Philly. We registered at Scarlett Alley for our place settings and some other really great things. Liz & Greg are a husband/wife team who run the little shop. It’s full of neat, yet practical gifts. They were so much fun! Most importantly, we found dishes we just love (which is why we picked them, actually). They’re colored glass plates from Germany called Love Plates. Dress them up, dress them down, dishwasher & microwave safe; what more can you ask for?! We also love the rainbow of colors they come in.

After that, we stopped by Safian & Rudolph to pick up our wedding rings. YAY!! Rob’s is perfect but mine needs to be resized a little. It’s still the most beautiful piece of jewelry I’ve seen (besides my e-ring, of course!). No pictures until December 29th. Unless of course I saw you this weekend. I couldn’t stop showing it off so several people got a sneak peek. Shh!!

At 1pm, we stopped by to see Aunt Helen and celebrate her 96th birthday. Mom threw her a party in the conference room with cake, cupcakes and yummy watermelon (although I’m pretty sure I chose cake over watermelon). Sarah, Jeff, Bobby, Grammy, Pop-Pop, Uncle John, Dad, Mom, Diggie & us were all there with Aunt Helen. Happy Birthday!!

After the party, we went back to Irma’s so Mom could show us 2 dress options she found the last time she was there. We saw one (beautiful) dress but the other sample was sold, so we couldn’t see that one. We where THIS close to buying the one dress. The dress looked amazing on Mom but the 2 different fabrics photographed incredibly differently! I am so glad we took pictures of it before ordering. The perfect dress is out there and the search continues.

Erin M’s b-day was also Saturday, so we and some other friends went out to Charley’s Other Brother for appys & drinks. It was a fun time celebrating with good friends. Happy Brithday Erin!!!

This must have been the weekend of birthdays; 2 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday. Sunday morning we headed to Delaware to celebrate Mom-Mom’s b-day. It’s always a long drive but one of the perks of not driving is the extra sleeping time. I took full advantage of that! The delicious lunch consisted of chicken parm, baked ziti, fresh jersey corn and salad. YUM!!

We’re working on putting together a memory table for the reception that will consist of wedding pictures from our parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, etc. Mom-mom & Dad-dad had an album but haven’t seen it in years. It might have been lost to water damage during Hurricane Camile when when they were living down in Louisiana. The only picture they have left is a 4×6 of them cutting their cake. It’s a beautiful photo and I’m so glad we have a copy to display!! Thank you!

Monday was relaxing, like a good Labor Day should be. Registering at Sur la Table in the morning (thanks for all your help MaryAnn!!). Skip & Diggie came with us, which made things fun and wacky. That was followed by a wonderful, relaxing BBQ at the A’s. Hot dogs, hamburgers, prime rib, grilled veggies and more fresh jersey corn… all Labor Day staples. What a way to end the summer!
