According to theknot.com’s checklist, I have completed 65 of my To-Do’s but still have 119 on the list. Some are quick and simple like “Arrange parking for the reception”. That is pretty much done b/c there is so much parking at our venue. Done. Others, like “Pick up your invitations” are a bit more complicated. We didn’t order standard invitations. Nothing in any of the books truly conveyed our vision, feeling or uniqueness, so we’re making them ourselves. Well, I think I might have gotten a tad carried away with the design because they’re going to take forever to make. But I love them and won’t give up the idea. Add 151 things to the To-Do list. A spool of 7-strand copper wire sits in my parents garage, waiting to be transformed into fabulous centerpieces. Add 24 things to the To-Do list.
Then you have this incessant ticker. 140 days. 139. 138. 137. 136. And suddenly, POOF, the time is gone. It seems like just yesterday, school was getting out and we had the whole summer ahead of us. Not anymore. Summer is almost over and in just over 4 months, we’ll be married. No more planning, no more projects. It’s a bittersweet feeling because I love the process but am looking forward to the final product even more. I am doing my best to enjoy this journey. It’s just going to fast.
Friday we bought our weddings rings. We picked out tuxes and started planning the honeymoon. 3 more checks off the list. 3 checks closer to being married. 3 simple clicks closer to no more planning. I want to savor each check, each accomplishment, each project. I want to create memories and enjoy being engaged.
I’m afraid to often I just check off the box and rush off to the next thing. Between work and class and homework and planning and living, the memories get lost or rushed. My 2nd MPA class ends in two days. I have 3 reaction papers, a presentation, and a final paper to do. Hours of work that I have little interest or desire in, while giant pile of tulle sits on the floor next to me, hoping to be made into a veil.
In 137 days, it’ll be over. All these hours of hard work. All the thread and yardage that went into the bridesmaids dresses. All the cutting and printing, gluing and wrapping that will go into the invitations. Hours of bending and twisting and shaping to make amazing centerpieces. All this work for just one day. It will be so worth it; to see all the planning and creating come together to make, not only one perfect day but also, a perfect beginning.
Thank you to our parents, family and friends for all your love and support. We appreciate your time and energy. We are so excited to make these memories with you!
