July 2007

Where the heck has the summer gone?? It seems like just yesterday I started my first grad class and Friday’s off. And… WHAM! Just like that, it’s July 9th. Our nation’s b-day has come and gone. Hope some of you got to watch the fireworks. I watched the NYC ones on TV while in SJ. The A’s knew we’d be too busy to cook and brought over some delicious BBQ. (Thank you!!) For me, the 4th seems like the quintessential middle of summer. From here on out, the summer is halfway over. Boo!!

Although it was quite the productive mid-point. Katie’s play dress is half done and we even got a fitting in. Hopefully we’ll finish it up this coming weekend. Kate’s play dress was also cut out. Looking back, the first half of the summer was quite productive. Megan’s play dress is done. We’ve cut out her new and final pattern out of the “real” fabric. While her bridesmaid dress was the first one we cut out of rust fabric, Bre actually gets the “First Dress” honors. After bringing home the bolt of rust fabric, the very first piece cut was the fabric for her dress.

Also this weekend, we laid out the master calendar from now until December. A number of weekends have already been planned and blocked out. Friday, my mother & I will be looking at invitations and hotels for our out-of-town guests. Saturday & Sunday mornings, Melis is coming over and we’re going to finish her play dress. If she likes it, we’ll start on the rust version. If not, it’s back to the pattern books. Saturday afternoon is also Kristie & Dan’s engagement party. Congrats guys!!

Rob and I have some awesome ideas for the wedding but we need YOUR help to make them a reality. If you’re going to be around and would like to chip in, please just let me know. After all, “many hands make light work.” Here are some important dates to keep in mind:

August 11th & 12th (Sat & Sun) – Centerpieces. We are making our fabulous copper tree centerpieces for the reception. About 30 are needed, so if you can come help make my dream a reality, please let me know – even if it’s just for a little while. We will be working in the morning & afternoon on both days.

October 6th & 7th (Sat & Sun) – Invitations. If you’d like a sneak peek at this fun art project, climb on board! While I don’t have the final design nailed down, knowing me it will probably involve a number of pieces (of varying sizes), glue dots, and possibly something shiny.

Munchies & merriment are sure to abound both weekends! Email me if you’d like to come help, so I know how many hands to count on.

It has been a fast start to a busy summer. The bridesmaid fabric we order came in a few weeks ago. Rob & Michael came into Philly with me and helped carry it. They’re so good to me!

Since then, the sewing has begun. We are making sample dresses for each of the girls out of some less expensive play fabric. Last weekend Megan came up from DC and we make hers. She picked a really cute robbins egg blue silky solid; very light, very summer. The dress we made looks adorable! But we decided to change patterns for her real dress. The sample dress looks fabulous knee length but something just isn’t right when it’s floor length. Guess it’s a good thing we did a sample.

In 2 weekends, Melissa will come up and we’ll do her sample. Progress! YAY!!!!
